Onitsuka Tiger New Trainer Models
Japanese label Onitsuka Tiger have launched two brand new trainer designs as part of their AW13 collection. One is an update on a 1980s classic silhouette whilst the second is a brand first, utilising the latest in footwear technology.
On the two new designs, Lisa Hogg, Onitsuka Tiger’s Head of Brand Management, says: “Pioneering style, performance and heritage, Onitsuka Tiger takes its cue from contemporary Japan for the new season. The HARANDIA is a first on many levels while the ULT-RACER captures the retro runner trend, with Onitsuka Tiger’s dedication to detail and energetic signature.”
The ULT-RACER is an update of Onitsuka Tiger’s most popular running shoe of the 1980s and is crafted to provide stability and support – all the while being ultra lightweight. The decade saw an explosion in the fitness craze, with many taking up jogging, and the brand pioneered the development of the fashion performance running shoe.
The 2013 version features a nylon upper and combines a chunky sole with a SoLyte midsole to give it a light and comfortable feel. The brand’s hero style comes in a tri-tone colour way of white, blue and green, but the model is available in seven unique colour combinations.
Onitsuka Tiger takes a new direction with their HARANDIA model. Developed and named after designer Harold Arandia, HARANDIA is the brand’s first shoe to include ASICS ‘GEL’ – guaranteeing extra cushioning and comfort. It has an irregular lace area, which ensures a distinct silhouette, and is available in a variety of bright and neutral colour ways, with a particular highlight being the black and tan suede option.
In another first, the HARANDIA is the first trainer to ever feature the brand’s name written in Japanese on the sole.
